“Harlem Shake” has hit number one on iTunes charts, following one of the biggest viral explosions to hit the Internet since “Gangnam Style.” 

Virtually unknown two weeks ago, the electronic trance song made by New York producer Baauer reached the top of the all-genre iTunes songs chart on Saturday passing “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore.

It’s unclear whether the downloads are coming from actual EDM fans, or people who just want to record their own 30-second video to add to the YouTube frenzy.  The site reported last week that over four-thousand “Harlem Shake” videos were being uploaded every day. 

The original “Harlem Shake” is nearing ten-million views.  The trend is said to have originated last month after a blogger by the name of Filthy Frank included the song in a video.
