Usher is speaking out for the first time about the swimming pool accident that left his son in the hospital. 

Five-year old Usher Raymond The Fifth was rushed to the hospital Monday after nearly drowning when his arm got stuck in a pool drain at a home in Atlanta. 

In a statement the R&B superstar says his son is “doing well and recovering.”  He also extended his gratitude to the two men - Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews - who pulled his son from the water and saved his life.  Usher thanked everyone for the “outpouring of prayers, love and support.”  

Following the incident, Usher’s ex-wife, Tameka Raymond, was granted an emergency custody hearing.  The “Atlanta Journal Constitution” reports that she is asking for partial custody of the two children she has with Usher. 

She says the singer is creating an unsafe environment by allowing other people to take care of their kids.  The custody hearing has been scheduled for Friday.
